About the Club
Established in 1906, Downend & Frenchay Tennis Club (formerly Downend & Fishponds LTC) has a long history and counts ex Davis Cup Captain, Paul Hutchins, as a former member. In 2015, the club relocated from the lower end of Cleeve Hill to the grounds at Frenchay Cricket Club & was formally opened by Greg Rudeszki.
The Club offers a full range of tennis for all ages from toddlers to pensioners and all abilities from complete beginners to tournament players.
The Club has around 300 members and is run on a not for profit basis by a Committee, elected by the members at an Annual General Meeting. New members of all ages and abilities are always welcome.
Today, the club offers a comprehensive coaching programme for players at all levels from junior to competition.
Several of the Club’s talented juniors have been selected to the County Junior Tennis Squad and compete in Regional Tournaments.
Courts are available for play up to 10pm every day. Lights are free for all members too.
Downend & Frenchay Tennis Club is a LTA venue registered and accredited club. This ensures ensures that the club has met the “minimum registration standards” set by the LTA, which is the nationally acknowledged accreditation scheme for tennis clubs. An accredited club is recognised as a safe, welcoming and inclusive place for participants of all ages to play tennis.
The club is in the process of planning a clubroom facility to provide protection from inclement weather, & toilets. Planning permission has been granted so now the club is currently investigating funding & progression of the project. The following images give an impression of the planned facility.
